| Setting Up Microsoft Messenger (Mac) |
|
Introduction
|
This tutorial guides you through the process of setting up Microsoft Messenger for Macintosh so it will work from inside the CSU network. This tutorial assumes you are using Microsoft Messenger 5.0 , which is freely available from the Microsoft website.
You will need:
Your my.csu username and password
-
An installed copy of Microsoft Messenger 5
-
A connection to the Internet (e.g. using CSU Dial Up)
|
Step 1
| Microsoft Messenger will not work from inside the CSU network by itself. A tool called Authoxy must first be downloaded. Authoxy can be downloaded from: http://www.hrsoftworks.net/Products.html
Once you have downloaded Authoxy, open the .dmg file and run the installer.
When you have finished installing Authoxy, click on the Apple menu at the top left of your screen, and select System Preferences. |
 |
Step 2
|
Click on the "Authoxy" icon near the bottom of the System Preferences window.
In the "Proxy Authentication Details" section enter your my.csu username into the "Username" field, and your my.csu password into the "Password" field.
In the "Remote Proxy Details" section make sure the "Use this proxy server" option is selected.
In the "Address of server" field enter "proxy.csu.edu.au", and in the "Port" field enter "8080".
Click the "Start Authoxy " button near the top of the window.
|
 |
Step 3
|
Click the "Show All" button to be taken back to the System Preferences window.
Click on the "Network" icon. From the "Show" drop down menu select "Built-in Ethernet" if your computer is connected using a cable, or "Airport" if you are connected using the CSU wireless network.
Click on the "Proxies" tab so you see a window similar to the image to the right.
Select "Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS)" from the list and make sure is ticked.
In the "Secure Web Proxy Server" field to the right enter "127.0.0.1" into the first field and "8080" into the second.
Click the "Apply Now" button and close the window.
|
 |
Step 4
|
Now open up Microsoft Messenger. Microsoft Messenger is usually in your Applications folder.
From the "Messenger" menu in the menu bar select "Preferences". In the new window that appears click on the "Accounts" icon at the top.
Make sure the "Personal" tab is selected.
In the "My Network Settings" area select the "Manually configure settings" option, and then tick "I use a proxy server".
Select "HTTP Proxy" from the "Type" drop down menu. Enter "127.0.0.1" into the "Server" field, and "8080" into the "Port" field.
Click the "OK" button.
|
 |
Step 5
|
Click the "Sign in" button to log into MSN.
Congratulations, you have finished the guide.
