CSU Student Email
Setting Up Mozilla Thunderbird (Windows)

Introduction

This tutorial guides you through the process of setting up Mozilla Thunderbird so you can access your CSU Student email. This tutorial assumes you are using Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5, which is freely available from the Mozilla website.

You will need:

  • Your my.csu username and password
  • An installed copy of Mozilla Thunderbird for Windows
  • A connection to the Internet (e.g. using CSU Dial Up)

Step 1

Open your copy of Mozilla Thunderbird. It can usually be found by going to the "Start" button (in the lower left hand corner of the screen), selecting "All Programs", and then "Mozilla Thunderbird".

Go to the "Tools" menu at the top of the screen and select "Account Settings...". In the Account Settings window click on the "Add Account..." button.

Step 2

You should now see the Account Wizard window.

Make sure the "Email account" option is selected, and then click the "Next" button.

Step 3

Enter your name into the "Your Name" field, e.g. "John Smith".

Enter your CSU email address into the "Email address" field. Your CSU email address is your my.csu username, followed by "@postoffice.csu.edu.au".

Click the "Next" button.

Step 4

Ensure that "POP" option is selected as the type of incoming server to use.

Enter "postoffice.csu.edu.au" into the "Incoming Server" field.

Enter "mailhost.csu.edu.au" into the "Outgoing Server" field.

You can only use the mailhost.csu.edu.au server from inside the CSU Network. If you use another ISP (e.g. BigPond) you will need to enter their SMTP server.

Click the "Next" button.

Step 5

Enter your my.csu username into both the "Incoming User Name" and "Outgoing User Name" fields.

Click the "Next" button.

Step 6

Enter a name for the email account, for example "CSU Email" and click the "Next" button.

Check that the settings you have entered are correct, and then click the "Finish" button.

Click the "OK" button the close the Account Settings window.

Step 7

To check your CSU email click on the "Get Mail" button in the toolbar. When asked for your password enter your my.csu password and click the "OK" button.

Congratulations, you have finished the guide.
