Ari Shepard grew
up
an orphan on Earth. Not much is known about her early life, save
that she grew up on the street and ran with Gangs. When she was
eighteen she enlisted in the Alliance Military to escape the criminal
life on the streets. Shepard can be private and withdrawn when it
comes to personal details, but she is generally friendly and compassionate.
She makes an effort to get to know everyone she works
with, from her fellow soldiers to the engineers and the pilots
on her ship. Despite being humble, she has always excelled in her
military duties, showing great aptitude for leadership and biotic
warfare. She has always been compassionate, and passionate about
helping out the unfortunate. Ari was allways a true Paragon, hero, and
dutiful Alliance soldier in her service history, always going beyond
the call of duty and not being afraid of putting her life on the
line to save fellow soldiers and civilians. You could say she was
born to save the galaxy, and if anyone can accomplish it, she
can.
She has a close comradery
with the Normandy's pilot, Joker, who is like a brother to her and
her oldest friend. Of all of the soldiers, technical geniuses,
assassins, and biotic warriors Shepard has ever worked with, there
are two she respects above all others in their combat prowess and
straightforward work ethic. Wrex and Jack accompanied Shepard in
every mission they were serving with her on. During her hunt for
Saren she grew close to her friend and college Kaiden Alenko.
Scuttlebug among the Normandy Crew is that they had a relationship
before she died, their re-union was very charged. Kaiden felt
betrayed that Shepard was now working with Cerberus, an organisation
that they had campaigned against frequently in their time working
together. After this confrontation Shepard became a lot more
withdrawn and focussed on her mission.
“I’m asking to be your friend, you don’t want to
be my
enemy.”
After waking, Ari
also became disenchanted by the politics,
and while she hated the Illusive Man, she co-operated with him
on the mission for the good of the galaxy. Her only nod
to the Alliance after waking was her visit to Councillor Anderson
whom she still deeply respected. Ari felt betrayed and let down not
only by the Alliance's treatment of her crew after her death, in
splitting them up, but also by their use of her as a corporate logo
and marketing device, while continuing to ignore her warnings about
the Reapers. Since her revival Ari has grown very close to Tali and
Garrus, two team members she never really got to know previously but
who are now her only links to her past life (aside from Joker). She
also spent some time trying to track down Kaiden and was deeply
hurt, but also shamed by his comments when they re-united. During
the final mission against The Collectors four of her team members
died, two of them very close friends and comrades. Ari was
devastated that she let these people down, as well as the Normandy
crew who died before she could rescue them, and the colonists who
had been taken. She has grown a lot quieter since and spends a lot
of time in her chambers. Joker is the only person who can still talk
her out of her sulking fits and make her laugh.

“Just once, I’d like for
someone to say ‘Yes, certainly, I’ll help you save the galaxy!
Just let me go grab my
stuff!’” |
