An effective teacher realises that the holistic development of the student
is
of high priority. Not only must the teacher inform the children of the syllabus
contents
but also mould the student’s awareness of the social, spiritual and
physical
aspects of life and general well being. Aspects to consider in ensuring a
healthy
student are their cultural backgrounds and beliefs, their social relations
and
ability as well as their moral understandings.
A holistic development includes being sensitive to individual’s welfare,
needs,
capacities as well as interests. The goals identified by an effective teacher
must be adjusted to relate to the level that the child is capable of. The
goals
expressed must be justified in relation to the student’s long-term
holistic
benefit.
It is the teacher’s duty to provide a clear and empathetic learning
environment
for the children to mature within. In order to identify what child needs
help
in what area, the activities and goals need to be developed with close relation
to each child’s learning differences that need to be catered for. The
diversity
of individuals within the classroom must be identified to implement teaching
strategies. The teacher must identify students' varying backgrounds, approaches,
experiences and abilities, in relation to learning.
