Teachers should act as role models for their students to follow, therefore
a
teacher must constantly be improving their knowledge, sharpening their decision
making, growing in understanding and awareness, expanding their pedagogy
skills
as well as maintaining a moral belief of what is correct behaviour.
In order to be an effective leader the teacher must draw from a variety
of sources
to ensure that the actions undertaken by the teacher are wise. Such outside
sources include drawing information from fellow teachers and associates,
educational
research and syllabuses, as well as preconceived ideas and theories on
effective
teaching strategies. This information is then collaborated and individual
teachers
eliminate and filter out the parts within the sources, which are incorrect
or
are of no use.
Once an effective teacher has selected and collaborated the important aspects
of what makes an effective leader they can then begin to put into practice
these
aspects and aspire to achieve what they have selected as accurate leader
behaviour.
A teacher undertakes the appropriate professional development events and
activities
needed to improve student learning.
A leader will understand that a school’s development needs the assistance
of
teachers to operate smoothly and increase in effectiveness. They should also
observe and maintain the connection to the school body and the parents and
family
body of the students.
Children’s different cultural backgrounds need to be treated sensitively
and
appropriately by making the differences of children known and accepted in
the
classroom. The extent of the multicultural diversity within classrooms has
a need for the teacher to show leadership qualities and cater for the diversity
by being sensitive to the certain needs of the children.
