5) Leadership

Effective Teachers are leaders of learning communities.

* Teachers are constantly updating their knowledge to remain the leaders of education.

* Teachers see that learning is changing and develop teaching philosophies based on these changes.

* Teacher assist in the constant development of the school, working in collaboration with their colleagues.

* Teachers lead the way towards a stable society by educating students about cultural diversity.

A Teachers leadership is not just for the students to enable them to become part of society but for the education system. They are in the front line of educational reform. Changing the system and their own philosophies as society changes.

To develop this competency I will need to:
1) keep aware of changes in the teaching profession.
2) attend staff meetings to know what is happening in my school.
3) be aware of the latest social issues and the schools thoughts about them.
4) promote equality by treating the students equally.
5) observe the changing society and school system and take that knowledge to my colleagues to contribute to school development.
6) keep revising my teaching philosophy as my experience and knowledge grows.

Strengths and Weaknesses of this competency:
The strength of this competency is that teachers remain at the helm of education so that know student is disadvantaged by lack of knowledge. The weakness is that although society has changed and the education system is aware that change needs to take place old techniques are still being used and some teachers hold onto outdated teaching philosophies. Just because it still works doesn’t mean that it doesn’t need to change.

Current evidence of this competency:
I have a little experience in leadership and programme planning as a Peer Support Leader in High School and have developed a teaching philosophy.
