Pedagogy is by definition the art of teaching. A good pedagogy is essential in seeing education come to play the liberating and useful role it is intended to in the lives of students. Having an effective pedagogy thought out and ready to implement will affect a student’s education, a class, a school.

Assessment is important in knowing if your goals are being met both for yourself and for your students and also in assessing if your standards and expectations are realistic. Here are some strategies i have thought through.

• Building a connection and establishing rapport.
  In order to create the level of trust and respect needed between student and the teacher required in allowing students to have an input into the lesson content and teaching methods.

• Awareness of student’s learning styles/ cultural context.
  This is an essential part of recognising and embracing the community in which you are teaching

• Relating subject matter to real life.
  This is an important factor both in being relevant to the community from which the students come, and in providing education that students see as valuable to their lives.

• Aiming to achieve Self Direct Learning in the classroom
