Capturing Unique Australian Moments
![]() ![]() I live and work on the Central Coast of New South Wales, just an hour north of Sydney. Living in a location where I am surrounded by amazing natural wonders such as a dramatic coastline inspired me to begin my journey into landscape photography. I started out taking mainly seascape photos and I think this will always be my main passion. Most weekends, I'm usually up before dawn and can be found down at the beach or perched at the edge of a sea cliff with my camera and tripod. I get an amazing sense of achievement from capturing a high quality photograph of a beautiful sunrise to add to my collection of images. Every time I get behind my camera, I am inspired to share with others these special images which I believe make Australia such a unique place. Recently, I have been getting into making stitched panorama shots as you will see from my first blog entries. I love the work Bent Pearson has been doing with night photography and light painting, so I have also been doing some of this. Along with a good friend, Jasiah Ulbright, I have started a Flickr group for photographers who live on the Central Coast. Feel free to check it out and join up if you like our style and want to join us on a shoot. My Equipment ![]() I started out with a fairly cheap low end Sony SLR camera, but quickly outgrew it - wanting more than the camera could give me. I went to a seascape workshop with Brent Pearson, learnt heaps and, after that, I just had to upgrade to get the results I was after. I initially wanted to get the Nikon d700x which was rumoured to be coming out soon but, after a couple of months, I could not wait any longer and opted for the Canon 5D Mark 2. With the 5D, I chose the 24-70mm f2.8 L series and the 17-35mm f4 L series lenses. I am really into seascape photos, so I bought a Cokin X Pro filter holder and the Cokin X Pro circular filter. I also bought a series of Lee resin filters - a 3 stop ND, a 2 stop ND and a 2 stop hard Grad ND filter. I hope to also buy a 3 stop soft Grad and a 2 stop soft Grad shortly to round out my filter kit. |
