My Favourite Hobbies

The hobbies that I enjoy the most are:

Handmade Soap

I love to make my own soaps. I use a combination of vegetable oils and fats which when mixed with lye produces a chemical reaction to make soap.
I enjoy mixing my own scent blends from essential oils to fragrance my soaps and often use clays or herbs to colour my soaps.
The raw soap is poured into moulds and left to harden overnight then cut into bars and fully cured for 4 weeks.
The cured soaps are then trimmed, wrapped and labelled and can be used straight away or stored in a dry place for later use.

Textile Crafts

I am a qualified Clothing and Textile designer and prior to having a family worked in the clothing industry.
These days I enjoy using fibres and fabrics to create things for the home and my family members.
I always seem to have a number of projects on the go at one time, and I particularly enjoy knitting, crochet and felting.

Felting

Felted fabrics are usually produced by rubbing pure wool fibres together in warm soapy water until they become matted together.
I am able to combine all of my favourite hobbies when felting as I will often knit or crochet an item first and then felt it.
The felted items I enjoy creating the most are bags that are made with a knitted base and crochet motifs.
My bag designs are inspired by the paintings of Gustav Klimt.
