2007 Butt Family Picnic Day T
A family lunch followed the formal proceedings and later on family members convened at the Goulburn Brewery for a tour conducted by Father Michael O'Halloran. For those who are interested, The Goulburn Brewery was the first brewing business established in Australia by native born Australians. The complex was designed by Francis Howard Greenway (1777-1837), Australia's first fully qualified architect, and they are now the oldest surviving intact and integrated set of brewery buildings in Australia. Originally designed for Jonas, Thomas and William Bradley, construction was underway in 1833, but it was not operational until some time after 1836, when it operated as a partnership between William Bradley and William Shelley, as William's elder brother Thomas had died in 1835.
Eventually the Brewery was acquired by Tooth & Co. Limited who continued to brew until the Great Depression. Tooths ceased brewing here on 30 December 1929, to centralise their operations at Broadway in Sydney. They also acquired Resches around this time. Tooths continued to use it as a depot until 1956 4. Further information is available from the Goulburn Brewery website.
Next year's gathering is scheduled to meet on Saturday 5 April 2008 in Junee. Full details will be circulated prior to the event.
