Before I had my own computer I would attend music lessons where my teacher had a Miracle piano keyboard plugged into an Apple Mac. My first computer was an Acer XT which was bare bones – not even a mouse.

One of the first things I did was purchase a sound card for it. The XT had an 8bit ISA bus and it was a challenge but I finally found a Creative Sound Blaster card that would fit it. The most exciting part of this purchase was the software and the whole world of audio creation that came with it.

Today good music and sound effects are expected as part of your computing experience and the software to create music and sound effects has come a long way to support that expectation.
