The BAKUL Baseball Academy provides a platform for players and coaches to develop their skills and game to move to the next level through the development pathway of Victorian State, MLBAAP, College, Australian Baseball League (ABL), Professional and International Baseball and ultimately help increase the pool of players that can represent Australia. Delivered by Baseball Victoria on behalf of the Australian Baseball Federation’s (ABF) Player Development Pathway, the Academy exposes players to the various physical and technical aspects underpinning our National High Performance Program and the Major League Australian Academy Program (MLBAAP).
Managed and overseen by Baseball Victoria’s High Performance Manager and BAKUL Baseball Academy Coach, Damian Shanahan, the Academy includes coaching personnel with State, National, ABL and Professional experience, including the 'Jet Couriers' BAKUL Baseball Academy ABL Team's coaching staff and players.
The program is conducted annually between May and September. Specific dates are advised to invited athletes by post.
Players are invited to attend the Academy through their performances and selection in National and State Teams and programs, with remaining places opened shortly after.
Players participate in elite-level skills development training, a strength conditioning program, injury prevention guidance and individual testing to help them improve their game.
The Academy has been made possible through the involvement of the program partners, the Australian Baseball Federation and Baseball Victoria, with additional support provided by Major League Baseball International.
BAKUL Baseball Academy naming rights sponsor, Jet Couriers, together with sponsors United Financial Service and the Aces Sporting Club, have combined forces to make scholarship funding available to a number of participants who might otherwise be unable to take advantage of the program.
