Web Accessibility

When creating a web page, it is important to make it accessible, in his article Swaney defines web accessibility as “Making web content available to a wide audience regardless of physical disabilities, web clients, and personal preferences.”(Swaney) in line with this I have used what Swaney describes as “alt text”(Swaney) this makes the web page more accessible as they “indicate their purpose to a user who cannot view images.”(Swaney) whether it be because of blindness or because their web browser is too slow they can still understand what the image is that is meant to be there, the reason I want to include this is that it will enable users to still access my site and know what books are available. In the future I hope to implement changes such as making sure that there are no “fixed dimensions” (Swaney) which can cause a problem as with the different computer screens having fixed dimensions in the html coding can cause trouble with the “…design.” (Swaney)

Web Security

As this website is one through which I hope to sell books it is also important to make the website secure, there are several ways of doing this but the one I plan on using in the future will be to use encryption on the site. Encryption is “the conversion of data into an unreadable form, called a ciphertext. Ciphertext cannot be easily understood by unauthorized individuals…” (Felke-Morris p493) using this would mean when my clients made transactions they would not have to worry that their credit details were vulnerable.
