Pedagogy & Assessment

Pedagogy is the art or profession of teaching. Effective teachers provide a large range of skills and abilities that create a comfortable learning environment where students can succeed both academically and personally. This combination of skills and abilities is integrated with the professional teaching standards which allow educators to practice at a high level (Intime 2001).

Assessment refers to the process where the student is evaluated on the educational quality of the work they have produced (Fulks 2004). It is an important part of pedagogy as it provides the educator with evidence to whether or not their teaching methods are working. There are many ways to assess students abilities. Some include tests, essays, observations, portfolios, checklists and presentations.
