On the bank of the Murray River

COROWA

Located on the banks of the 'mighty' Murray River and the Victorian border, the NSW town of Corowa has a lot to offer residents and visitors. It is due to this borderline location that Corowa is called the 'birthplace of Australia's Federation', as the Federation movement began here in 1893. Today, a variety of industries keep this rural town alive, including farming, tourism and manufacturing.

A visit to Corowa would not be complete without visiting some of the surrounding areas. Nearby towns include:
  • Beechworth - old gold mining town and home of great Australian honey
  • Rutherglen - sample some wine from the rustic country vineyards
  • Chiltern - step back in time, scour for antiques from the town's hey day
  • Bright - at the foot of the Victorian snowies, a beautiful place to visit in Autumn
  • Yackandandah - a charming little village to stop in for a relaxing coffee
  • Year round, many of these towns, including Corowa, host festivals and events celebrating their local produce, history or sense of community. Some of these popular annual events include the Tastes of Rutherglen, Beechworth's Golden Horseshoes Festival and the Australian Billy Cart Championships, held in Corowa.
