INTERVIEWING and choosing the ideal agent to sell your property can take a lot of time and effort.

A free service called Which Real Estate Agent, makes the job easier by impartially researching and shortlisting local real estate agents who are experienced in successfully selling similar properties.

It is then up to the vendor to meet the agents and decide who to give their listing to.

When the property sells, the agent pays 20 per cent of the sales commission to Which Real Estate Agent, keeping the service free to the vendor.

Chief executive of the service, Thomas Roberts, has a background in data analysis and is a licensed estate agent.

"You wouldn't buy a car, a phone or a computer based solely on what the manufacturer tells you";you would make an informed balanced decision based on data and the assessment of third-party experts," Mr Roberts said.

Mr Roberts sourced and shortlisted three suitable agents from different companies for a Waverton vendor whose house was worth over $2 million; of those, the vendor chose McGrath agents Annika Robins and Nigel Mukhi.

The house sold under the hammer for $2,107,500 (according to RPData).

Ms Robins says this is the first time she had been referred to a vendor through Which Real Estate Agent, and had a very positive experience.

"It's like a vendor's agent rather than a buyer's agent; they do a lot of the initial legwork for the vendor,"; Ms Robins said.

"We had a really good experience with the vendor and the service.";
