This unlike World of Warcraft, League of Legends is completely free to play, but you can buy in game objects with real money regardless of the fact that if you earn in game credits to buy these same objects. It complex’s my Russian brain that people would buy these objects even though that they would come with hard work. Silly Capitalists. Even so I found this game very fun, even if I did find myself surrounded by reskinned characters that did nothing more than look pretty.
I hate to start with bad things first, but this annoyed me to such an extent that I almost quit the game. The tutorial while being informative, I found so condescending. If I achieve smallest thing the woman narrator who while trying to be supportive treated me like a baby, saying great job on clicking a button. Non-descript soviet man know how to press button but I do not need to be congratulated on such an event. What more the more intricate systems of the game are not explained unless you find specific wiki page. IS STUPID!.
However once you have got the overall game mechanics with little help from the tutorial you will first get the chance to go up against the artificial intelligence of each character in one round. These rounds typically last about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the overall skill level of the players and are made of each side having three lanes to battle against each other until either side reaches the nexus, which is where the players and minions spawn.
On top of that these minions fight each other persistently next to you against the other minions and the towers. These Towers either act as turrets or “inhibitors” that when they are destroyed, allow the other team to spawn better minions. On top of that there are items you can buy wityh the money collected from killing opposing team members, towers and minions that increase a chosen statistic of your character such as attack damage or health etc. This allows the player to spec out their champion to a particular strategy such as long range, speed, high attack damage etc. Now there can be a maximum of 5 or 3 characters on each team depending on what map you chose to play that are aligned towards a particular style of play.
For instance I favoured the champions “Master Yi” and “Graves” due to their capacity to deal damage really really really fast and in huge amounts, thus killing anybody in my way but these characters were liable to be ambushed like American in wintertime when still killing another character and I would die.
But when non-descript get bored of noobish so called team mates that dropped out every ten minutes, I went to battle against real opponent where I find that self-taught training meant nothing in the way of other players tactics. These true warriors of the digital screen completely shown how new I was at this game. So much so I began taking notes on how to spec out particular champions against other champions in any hope to try beat them which worked until I came up against a champion I was “feeding” supposedly, that completely obliterated any effort against them. So I learned more when battling against other people that l told me what I was doing wrong this whole time, which was rushing ahead with a tactic that would have worked against the computer but not against real opponents.
Also I found the match time would dramatically increase if each team was evenly matched. I played two hour game once that ended so closely that it almost did not end at all. Again I shall have to feed pet puppy before game as Kalashnikov did not get fed again in game review. Poor puppy…
But even he would agree that overall this game is pretty damn awesome as my mother used to say in old country (do not ask for context) once you learn the different tactics and skills, but it will take time to get to know things in game so a good internet is required for researching with the youtube to get full experience.
Graphically the game has a cartoonish aesthetic and the battles themselves hardly ever require much of a computer to run. However there are only 3 different maps to choose from in entire game which perplexes me since there are so many balanced characters to choose from. The Characters themselves range from being cutsie-wootsie to serious awe to just plain sexual fantasy. Some female characters had almost nothing on, making hard to see them seriously as a character. However that aside there has been a huge amount of effort to make this game look beautiful either on the menu or in the game itself that also isn’t too taxing on computer.
Apart from condescending tutorial woman each character has been voiced carefully to each characters playstyle and thus the more silly characters pipe some hilarious statements when owning the entire field. But the condescending tutorial woman eventually accepted place in announcing kills and tower destruction in battles where she excelled. It is ok to announce a triple kill in congratulatory voice, not when pressing button clearly marked to press.
The entire soundtrack while good was not amazing not that you noticed it in any context other the beginning wait around at the start of the match due to your full attention being given to the match itself
While this game’s major flaw is that it does not teach you well, the rest of the game more than covers it in general experience. The amount of teamwork needed for this game make me proud of our non-descript soviet men out there doing good games in the name of our mother country. Now I go play my lightsaber Master Yi and Cowboy Graves for Russia!
