DESCRIPTION

Dreamweaver4 can be considered a content management system (cms) as it is a software programme that can manage workflow from content authoring to editing to publishing for the creation of web sites. It can also be considered as a prototyping tool in that it is a web development software programme that enables interactive wireframes and clickable prototypes to be created.

Dreamweaver4 was produced by Macromedia Inc. and was a popular web sites creation tool around 2000. The version currently being used is Adobe® Dreamweaver® CS5.5 and is used to design visually or directly in code, develop pages with content management systems, and maintain standards-based websites and applications. New features allow users to add advanced interactivity with jQuery code hinting including mobile phones.

EVALUATION

Price : Dreamweaver4 is an old version costing about $300 for the initial purchase in 1990

Audience : I use this program to update my family history as the hyperlinks give me more flexibility than the static family history programs available for purchase. It can be used by individuals. The Uni of Newcastle Library used this program to create web pages in the early 2000's before the introduction of the Autonomy Intervoven Teamsite cms software program.

Ease of installation : easily installed by inserting and registering the purchased disk.

Templates : the user can create templates to save time managing content

Content creation : many advanced features are available

Content editing : editing is easy

Training : training is required initially but a comprehensive print manual is available

Support : Dreamweaver4 is no longer supported with only very recent versions being supported

Security : no special passwords are required
