The role of the information architect isn’t just decided by determining taxonomies, site maps or the best tools to use like search engines, but often requires meeting with clients to show their view of the project’s goal. As Dan Brown of Boxes and Arrows explains using certain tools such as wireframes when meeting with clients can step on the designer’s toes by setting visual expectations (Brown, 2002). Diagramming tools allow the information architect to show aspects of the layout and the priority sections of the page to clients without setting on a concrete design. They allow for easier blueprint mock-ups regarding taxonomies and site maps.
Diagramming software needs to be easy to use and showcase to clients how the site will be prioritised and connected with possible mock ups of certain tools. I looked at Creately, a web based program which users can save work online, accessible by a number of accounts (Creately, 2012).
