Artist Profile - Leonard McCoy

Leonard McCoy Sample Gallery

The artwork of our resident Leonard McCoy is simply difficult to define. Leonard loves to take more traditional public domain artwork, such as painting and sculpture then add more modern digital art, such as digital photographs and images to create something entirely unique. His works both create a new piece of artwork while reimagining or redefining the original pieces. His skill at merging artworks helps bring new meaning and interpretations. One thing is for sure, when you visit the Leonard McCoy art exhibition you will not be sure what you are getting!

Text description of video

The video shows a collection of six of Leonard McCoy's art works. A deep haunting acoustic guitar is played over the video. The pieces of work are -
Bay of Maps, from 2013. It features an oil painting with a snowy landscape and river mouth with a layer of a hand drawn map showing a similar inlet superimposed over it.
Earth on Fire, from 2013. It features a composite artwork of people working on the land, with trees and a large man pulling them down. There are also trees on fire. An image is underneath and some of the original image is cleared away to show this. This underneath image is a photograph of a fresh untouched woodland area.
Earth Unmapped, from 2013. It features an instructional image showing the effect of gases entering in the atmosphere combined with a futuristic industrial looking machine. These images are superimposed over a dark purple and grey oil painting.
The Movie on the Bridge, from 2013. This features a painting of a 19th century city with a man looking towards a large wooden footbridge over a river. On the footbridge a photograph of a cinema screen is superimposed.
Windows of Windows, from 2013. This work is a painting of an open window with breeze blowing gauzy curtains. The image is sepia in colour. A washed out colour photograph taken through a modern window is transparently added over the painted window.
Shipping Crowds, from 2013. This work features an oil painting of a harbour crowded with wooden boats. There is snow over all the land in painting. On one shore of the harbour a digital image is superimposed. This image features a large crowd of people who are quite small compared to the boats and surrounds. The people all appear to be looking at the ships.
