Search tips 
Connectors: 

                         AND      Both the word Fidelity and the phrase mutual fund 
                                       eg. fidelity AND mutual fund 
                         OR         Either Exxon or Chevron

Using Truncation to Find Words with Multiple Endings 

To find any word with multiple endings, enter the truncation character $. For example, to find any word beginning with the letter advertis, enter advertis$. This will look for words including advertise, advertiser, advertising, advertisement. 


Restricting Your Search to an Individual Publication

You also can focus your search on a single publication in your search statement. 

First, select "All publications" and enter sn=publication name where "publication name" represents the title. 

                     eg. sn=sydney morning herald and fuel excise
 
 

Selecting Publications to Search 

You have two choices: 

Search all Publications. This will search all 6,000+ publications. To search all publications, click the button to the left of the label "All publications". 
Search a selected list of publications. Follow the instructions  to search either the Dow Jones default publications list or create your own list. 
By default, these groups of publications have been selected for you: 
 

  • Major News and Business Publications (important publications from around the globe) 
  • Top 50 U.S. Newspapers 
  • Press Release Wires 
To see what publications each of these groups contains, click the name of the group. To see details for any individual publications, click the name of the publication. This displays a description of the publication, dates of coverage, the date of the latest issue and other information. 

 How to customize preferences to fit the way you work 
1. Click Customize This Area in the left margin to access the Customize Publications Library Preferences page. 
2. Select the preferences you want as default preferences. For example, use the pull-down menu to change the default number of headlines from 10 to 30. 
3. When you have made your changes,click Save Preferences. These preferences will be your default when 
you search. Note: Customize your preferences before entering 
search statements, otherwise parameters are lost. 

How to Print an article

To print an article you must select the button above.  If your article has printed out with just a squashed line of text, it usually means you didn’t hit the Format to Print/Save button.  Click on the above button which will take you to another screen and select Print from the toolbar or from the File menu.

How to save an article

To save an article you must select the button above.  It will take you another screen, click on File and Save As
to save the article.

Browse Headlines and Lead Sentences
Headlines and lead sentences of articles that match your search criteria are displayed so you can make informed selections.
