How to use SiteBuilderSiteBuilder is used to create links to ProQuest articles and searches that can then be incorporated into CSU online subjects.
Use SiteBuilder to: :
See Examples
- provide a table of contents of a journal that is on ProQuest
- display a complete article in Acrobat or text format
- list articles from subject searches
- take students straight to the basic or guided search page of ProQuest
- display a list of issues of a journal available on Proquest
An overview of the process of using SiteBuilder:
1. Do a search and identify a useful article, journal or list of articles
2. Use the SiteBuilder toolbar (see below) to create a URL
3. Paste the URL into the HTML page you are editing.The URL that is created is available in online subjects to CSU staff and students.

First obtain access to a SiteBuilder - Builder Account by contacting Greg Fry (19977) or Karin Smith (84486)
3. How to link a Table of Contents page of your favorite journal into your own site
1. Login to ProQuest using the builder account obtained from the Library. (It may be necessary to use the cookie cutter at http://www.umi.com/cookiecutter to remove the ID from your last login to ProQuest.)2. The first page in SiteBuilder is the Basic Search Screen. Click on the
icon located in the top left hand corner to open the publications search screen.
3. Complete a title search for the required journal title, click on the title of the correct journal, and then select the required issue and view the contents page.
4. To build a link to this page:
- Using the mouse, right click on
- Choose Copy Link Location (Netscape Navigator), or Copy Shortcut (Microsoft Internet Explorer).
- Paste the link into an image or text in your web site.
4. How to link a full text article from ProQuest into your own site
1. Login to ProQuest using the builder account obtained from the Library. (It may be necessary to use the cookie cutter at http://www.umi.com/cookiecutter to remove the ID from your last login to ProQuest.)2.The first page is the Basic Search Screen. Select Basic, Guided or Natural Language search to locate your article.
3. Complete the search and display the article on the screen.
4. To build a link to this page:
- Using the mouse, right click on
- Choose Copy Link Location (Netscape Navigator), or Copy Shortcut (Microsoft Internet Explorer).
- Paste the link into an image or text in your web site.
5. How to link a saved search from ProQuest into your own site.

7. How to use the templates in SiteBuilder to build your own page:
SiteBuilder has a number of templates:
View the templates page by clicking on one of the above templates or login to ProQuest using the builder account obtained from the library. ((t may be necessary to use the cookie cutter at http://www.umi.com/cookiecutter to remove the ID from your last login to ProQuest.)Reading Room Course Materials Topic Room Student Assignment Customisable Headings 1 Customisable Headings 2 Select the
icon, located in the top left hand corner of the screen, to view and select from a list of templates.
Select a template and add your own details, class or assignment details and link search results, full text articles or search screens into your page. Save your file by one of the two methods given below.
1. Select the
icon. This will allow you either save the file to disk or to your hard-drive.
2. Select the
icon to save it to the database vendors site.
If you choose this option, MOST IMPORTANT be sure to write down the numeric edit number which appears on the save work screen, it will look something like:t397901079912081384
Note this number. It is necessary to enter this number (via the template screen) whenever accessing or editing the file.
