Search for Journal Title - use the word Software. All journals with the word Software in their title will be displayed.

- Select Journal Search from icons on top line. A search screen is presented to search for words within the database.

Restrict your search to "Journals in Subject Category" and choose the Life and Medical Sciences section

500 documents found.

Explain the difference between screens presented and then use the Enhanced Abstract tag to show references. Use the Links from that reference list to show how the service jumps to the original text being referenced.

Check out the additional links at the bottom of the enhanced abstract page.

Search Expressions

Both the Simple Search and Advanced Search allow you to use words or phrases combined with AND and OR to create complex searches. For example: rat AND cancer AND ( prostate OR liver ).

Use '*' as the wild card character. For example, a title search for carcino* returns all articles with titles that contain words starting with the letters carcino, such as carcinogen, carcinoma, and so on.

As a shortcut for OR, you can use the comma ",". For example, the search expressions:

gene, therapy and gene OR therapy return items that contain either gene or therapy.

You can also search for phrases. For example, the search expression:gene therapy

only returns documents that contain the phrase "gene therapy".

Do an advanced search: Use the All Fields tag and type diabetes; again use the All fields tag and type children. Search returns 176 records. Extend the search by using child* - search now gives 228. Further extend by using 'child* or youth or teen* '. Search now provides 234 records.

Investigate full text options: if Adobe is used, show how to save to file or print. Use back arrow to return to search.

Choose some articles and mark. Check out the availability tag on the right which indicates if an enhanced abstract is available, or an article in PDF format. Records can be saved in the "save as" section of the browser but it will only save what is visible on the screen.

Save Search Query tag at the bottom the the page is not yet available.
