Co-organiser of the U.S.National Park Service training course Conservation of Historic Metals in a Tropical Marine Climate. War in the Pacific National Park, Guam, 26 June-2 July 1994. The course focussed on in situ and in house treatment of large metal objects and artefacts, such as coastal defense guns.
Encroaching vegetation threatens even the largest pieces of coastal artillery. This
British-made 150mm gun is being engulfed by Scaevola sericea. Such vegetation sets up individual microclimates coducive to corrosion.
