This course was conducted by the Certre for Mental Health Research, Australian National University, Canberra.

‘This course teaches skills for providing initial help to people experiencing mental health problems such as depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis & substance abuse’ (Betty Kitchener MHFA Manager).

Why I have included this evidence

Skills gained during this course will be of significant value to me as a teacher and a school counsellor. Mental health issues affect many students, both directly and indirectly. Participating in this course increased my understanding of a broad range of mental health issues. It addressed strategies for providing initial help to individuals experiencing mental health problems. It looked at support services available and how these may be accessed. This course has laid a strong foundation for my further study.
