Becoming a Professional

Becoming an education professional is a process, which involves ongoing learning and personal growth. It involves developing knowledge, skills and understanding of key issues relating to the care and education of children. Teachers / school counsellors must:

  • Understand how legal, political and ethical issues impact upon the school (both staff and students), particularly with regard to child protection, funding and duty of care (Reid 2004).
  • Develop an understanding of the social, emotional and academic needs of individual students and develop strategies, which respond to student needs.

The following items have been included as evidence of my professional development in relation to both teaching and school counselling.

Child Protection Certificate

Mental Health First Aid Course
