Life Force Suicide Prevention Seminar

Youth suicide is a growing problem in Australia, particularly in rural communities. This seminar focused upon providing initial help those at risk of suicide. It looked myths and facts surrounding suicide, understanding what the suicidal person is feeling, recognising signs and assessing risk. Numerous prevention strategies were discussed, including strategies for confronting an individual who may be contemplating suicide (SALT) and seeking qualified help. Participants were provided with a list of local emergency contacts and support services.

The seminar was aimed at teachers, parents, secondary students, community welfare and health workers. Information from the seminar is applicable within both primary and secondary school settings.
