BASIC SOAP RECIPE ~ Ingredients
Makes 16 bars ~ 24 hours setting wrapped in blanket, demold, then 5 weeks curing time required
6 oz (170 grams) sodium hydroxide
16 oz (453.6 grams) filtered or spring water
12 oz (340 grams) olive oil
12 oz (340 grams) coconut oil (or Copha)
19 oz (538.6 grams) palm oil (or Frymasta)
** At trace (batter thickening) you can add up to 2 oz (56 grams) of EXTRA oil ~ essential oils of your choice.
** Find ethically and environmentally safe palm oil/alternatives (re: Southeast Asian Orangutan habitat destruction)
** This is a great bar of soap that lasts and lathers well.
CASTILE SOAP RECIPE (Olive Oil Soap) ~ Ingredients
Makes 16 bars ~ 3 days setting wrapped in blanket, demold, then 8 weeks curing time required
52 oz (1474.2 grams) olive oil
6.5 oz (184.3 grams) sodium hydroxide
15.5 oz (grams) filtered or spring water
** Castile is a soft, very mild soap made of only olive oil. Great for sensitive skin.
Kitchen scales ~ with add on function if possible
Medium - large stainless steel pot (the soapmaking pot)
Electric stick blender (eg: Barmix stick blender)
3 x pyrex measuring jugs (600 ml / 2.5 metric cup capacity. 20oz)
2 x long handled beer brewing spoons (hard white plastic)
2 x candy thermometers (0*c - 104*c. 32F - 220F)
1 x large glass bowl
1 x dinner plate
Spatula
Rubber gloves
