Painting

Well Painting on Zbrush isn’t a strong skill of mine however I will still show you how to use the painting tools to paint in real time 3D lets get started then.

Go to the Texture palette--> check Colourize --> check on the interface RGB (Note: make sure Zadd and Zsub are check off as you just want to colour your model not sculpt.)

You might be wondering well now how do I keep a texture map of what I have painted dude? Simple, just by going into the Texture palette and clicking Col>Txr you will now have a texture map of your hard work. (Note: when exporting your texture map, make sure you rotate it on Photoshop by flipping it vertical before importing it on a sperate program like Maya. This also applies for displacement maps.)

Photoshop --> Image --> Rotate Canvas --> Flip canvas Vertical --> Save it as a Tiff or jpeg so it can be used on another 3D application.

Now you will be able to select a colour and paint directly on to your model in real time. (Note: also make sure STD is turned on, its located under Rapid UI, and it is usually turned on by default when starting up Zbrush.)

Well now you’re probably wondering how I best take advantage of this way of painting on Zbrush 3, well by lowering the RGB intensity, and using on your left hand side menu bar in the Stroke palette, Spray or Colourized Spray you can get different styles of painting sprays, which are very effective when trying to paint realistic skin or reptile skin. Make sure you fiddle with each of all the strokes attributes which are located right under them before you select them as a stroke, as you can see by holding down CTRL over the advance options it will tell you what each one does, this feature can also be down with almost all the buttons on Zbrush by just holding down the CTRL button located on your keyboard. Now you should know how to spread the sprays dots out for your strokes, so you can create more organic looking textures.

Well have fun.
