My interests are numerous, if only I had more time to spend on them
Electronics: Building and fixing electronic devices - although have not done much of this of late.
Computer programing: Especially in assembly language - the Z80 Zilog processor being my favourite.
R/C Aircraft: Aircraft of all shapes and sizes.. this has been a keen area as long as i can remember I am especially interested in World War II aircraft - I must confess I have a Spitfire Scale model under construction - well almost.
Metal work: Metal work is used to facilitate the odd piece of machining that is required from time to time in R/C or electronics.
Astronomy: - my fall back interest.. read everything I can on this topic.

WWII Spitfire Mark VIII - Scale model. Flying and static examples of Spitfires can be seen at Duxford Museum. My scale model starts with a basic kit from "Mick Reeves". The particular kit I have has a fibre glass nose and the remainder being built up from balsa wood and plywood. It will be powered by a 3W85cc petrol two stroke. Speaking of engines have you heard the original Spitfire engine known as the Merlin engine - you should! I heard one for the first time on a trip to Duxford UK - it is magic... I had my camera ready but no recording device.. Did not think to use my phone... Next time! You can visit Temmora Aviation Museum, located a little north of Wagga Wagga NSW to see two magnificent Spitfires, Spitfire MRK XVI and a MRK VIII.If you looking to get in scale you cannot go far wrong by looking through forum by a chap in Germany who is building a 1/4 Scale Mick Reeves Spitfire. This chap is an excellent builder, loads of detail and techniques for building. The forum is available here, (you will need to register as a guest to view the forum pages). |

Fairy Gannet AS 1/4 - plan to build this from scratch. Scratch being drawing up the plans on a CAD package. Not sure to what scale this will be at this stage. The Gannet can be viewed at the Australian Fleet Air Arm Museum located at Albatross NSW, just south of Nowra... see here for location map

Metal Work - my skills are basic, have plenty of books to read and many items that are confined to the scrap bin.. Such it is with learning... practice practice. The are numerous web sites offering advice and projects, as an example Little Machine Shop there are many yet to be started projects in this area.. a number of work shop tools in kit waiting patiently under the work bench to be attempted.one of my long term goals (besides the Spitfire) is to built a astronomical mount for my 4 inch telescope living in the city does not provide the ideal viewing of the stars but alas it is a start. |
