Of course the best way of practicing bass is learning songs but before we go and do that there are other ways of training first. when you first start playing you need to practice htting frets and struming them right and then changing before you can learn songs.
if you havent already learned tabs go here before learning this. try slowly postoning you fingers starting like this.
e|--4-5-6-7---|
first finger for the four secound for the 5th and so on and play them one by one. once you got that down try speeding up and repeating it till you can get all four notes in one beat. after that you can move on to somthing more dfficult like
g|-------------------4567-----------|
d|--------------4567----------------|
a|---------4567---------------------|
e|---4567---------------------------|
this exsercise can be difficult at first but will soon become a quick warm up and as yo move on you can do it then repeat it backwards. then you can learn your scales and play them because there a few more changes and can take more thinking.
