Accessibility

"An accessible site is one that removes obstacles that get in people's way; removing the obstacle overcomes the disability." (Nielsen and Loranger, 2006)

Making content acessible

  • accessibility is a legal requirement
  • good keywords
  • findable by search engines
  • write in plain english but like RDA write things out in full
  • keep simple
  • plan for all users
  • create information that can be used for audio -  provide text descriptions for images
  • make text resizable
  • use reliable and valid links
  • headings and lists
  • use universal formatting
  • describe graphics and multimedia

Security

  • important to protect data integrity
  • user confidentiallity and protection

Protect against

  • phishing -  pretending to be an orgaisation to get personal information
  • spoofing- pretending to be a legitimate user to gain snesitive information
  • trojans - code to distrupt a network or website usually hidden inside a known program
  • virus -  attaches to files and is spreadsheet
  • worms -  does not remove data but moves from computer to computer
  • spyware -  gathers information about users will they use the web
  • Denial of service (DoS) if there is a security breach
Use the following to protect
  • antivirus software
  • encryption
  • firewalls
  • login and passwords
  • diligence
