Accessibility
"An accessible site is one that removes obstacles that get in people's way; removing the obstacle overcomes the disability." (Nielsen and Loranger, 2006)
Making content acessible
- accessibility is a legal requirement
- good keywords
- findable by search engines
- write in plain english but like RDA write things out in full
- keep simple
- plan for all users
- create information that can be used for audio - provide text descriptions for images
- make text resizable
- use reliable and valid links
- headings and lists
- use universal formatting
- describe graphics and multimedia
Security
- important to protect data integrity
- user confidentiallity and protection
Protect against
- phishing - pretending to be an orgaisation to get personal information
- spoofing- pretending to be a legitimate user to gain snesitive information
- trojans - code to distrupt a network or website usually hidden inside a known program
- virus - attaches to files and is spreadsheet
- worms - does not remove data but moves from computer to computer
- spyware - gathers information about users will they use the web
- Denial of service (DoS) if there is a security breach
Use the following to protect
- antivirus software
- encryption
- firewalls
- login and passwords
- diligence
