Welcome to Tinonee!

Tinonee is a charming village situated on the scenic Manning River just 10km south-west of the mid north coast town of Taree. Once a major river port, the punt which travelled across the river from Tinonee to Taree was part of the main road from Sydney to Brisbane. Tinonee was founded in 1854 and the name is believed to have come from the aboriginal word "tinobi" which means "big shark". Tinonee was once a thriving shipbuilding and timber town and over the years boasted the following enterprises:

Over the years, the coming of the railway, the cessation of the shipping industry and the Pacific Highway being built, along with the unemployment caused by the Great Depression in the 1930s caused the decline of Tinonee as people moved away to seek employment elsewhere.

These days Tinonee is a quiet village with a population of 690 people. The majority of residents work in the nearby towns of Taree and Wingham. Tinonee is now a popular tourist spot with a particular focus on the arts and crafts.

Tinonee still boasts 4 churches, a butcher, a school, a post office, and a bush fire brigade along with a takeaway shop and a general store.

What do I love most about Tinonee?

Having lived in this beautiful area for the majority of my life I enjoy the peace and quiet of the magnificent surrounding countryside. Wallabies, koalas and possums are regular visitors in our backyard. My family and I have enjoyed many relaxing afternoons canoeing and fishing along the Manning River as well as picnics on the banks. My friends and I have enjoyed bushwalking through the nearby Kiwarrak State Forest.

Allow me the pleasure of introducing you to some of the spectacular sights and sounds of this quaint country village.
