Click on cell A1

Write your name e.g. Craig Nelson. Notice it is writing it into the Formula Bar as well It will not lock this in until you press Enter, press the green tick or move off.

Notice the writing moves into B1, but it doesn't really. Click on B1 and begin to write. If you want to spread through the cells, you will need to merge the cells. Select the cells.

Press the Merge and Center button

Numbers

Excel will use various number formats when you enter numbers into the cells. Enter the following from A3:

50
30.75
1/2
1 3/4
$100

Excel may change these or display them differently after you press enter.

Click on the cells and observe the difference in the formula bar. The Formula bar shows you the number stored while the cell shows you the number according to the format it has been given.

You may have to change the format of the cell to make sure the value is what you intended.

Dates

Test the way Excel stores different date formats. Enter from B3:

1/2
1/2/06
1/02
1-Feb-06

Click on each cell and view the Formula bar.

TASK:

Create the following spreadsheet and enter the data on Sheet 2.

Note: You can change the data in a cell by clicking on it, altering the content and pressing Enter.
