Diagramming Software

Why use diagramming software?

In information architecture work, diagrams such as blueprints and wireframes are needed as working documents in the design of organisation, labelling and navigation schemes.
They are used to communicate with clients, content producers, interface designers and IT people.
While pen and paper, or applications such as Word or Publisher, can be used, more specific applications make creation of diagrams easier and more productive. They also allow for creation of professional looking presentation documents when required.
Diagramming software can also be useful for documenting things like card sort exercises, brainstorming sessions and workflow charts.

Diagramming Software Features to Expect

Some of the features of diagramming software that will make creation of diagrams, particularly blueprints, easier and more professional looking are:

•    Ability to link diagrams – eg. linking from the top-level blueprint to subsidiary blueprints
•    Anchored lines – lines remain connected to objects when the objects are moved
•    Curved lines
•    Multiple views possible – view document as a spreadsheet, as an outline or as lines and     boxes.
•    3-D views
