Diagramming Tools

The purpose of many IA documents and deliverables is to define the scope of the data on a website or intranet (Angeles, 2002).  The prototypes, wireframes, blueprints, flowcharts and network maps constructed with the aid of diagramming tools fulfil this purpose, at the same time representing such complex information as the structure and flow of a site, the relationship between pages and users’ movement through the architecture, all in a simple visual form that can be readily understood by developers and non-developers alike.   Diagrams are made at the research, design and implementation stages of a project and can also help information architects to gain a coherent grasp of the architecture of existing sites.
