Review: Axure
How it will save time: Axure has two killer features that will save time. It offers interactive prototypes -- prototypes that can be created with no coding knowledge. And Axure offers embedded specifications that update as the project updates.
Comments:Axure promises what Visio and OmniGraffle would if they were designed specifically for IA work -- fast prototyping that is interactive and that integrates with your workflow.
While the endproduct is more useful there are a couple of issues transitioning to an all-Axure-all-the-time workflow. It doesn't work on Macs. Its stencil library is limited. It requires lots of retraining (i.e., it isn't intuitive). And it is expensive ($600).
If you are an IA with some time to manage a transition to a new piece of software, Axure is worth it simply because it offers features you con't find anywhere else. Having said that as soon as a competitor matches Axure's feature set you may wish you hadn't gone to the trouble.
