Curriculum and Knowledge

Curriculum is an integrated course of academic studies offered by an educational institute. It is everything that occurs in the classroom, whether it is planned or unplanned.

Planned curriculum is set out as a syllabus, which is based on knowledge that the government and school systems require teachers to educate to their students.

Unplanned curriculum is the knowledge that you pass onto your students without necessarily meaning to. This type of knowledge can refer to the way that a teacher may handle certain situations, the way they position themselves during discussions and the way that teachers may communicate their ideas. For example, if a teacher tells racist jokes in their classroom, then they are communicating to their students that this type of behaviour is acceptable.

Curriculum, both planned and unplanned is essential in the classroom as well as in the grounds of the school as we scaffold and prepare students with the skills and knowledge that they may need for future endevours, whether this may be information straight from the syllabus or knowledge on acceptability in society.

Already at university, we as students are learning from our lecturers and tutorial teachers knowledge and understanding that will helps us as we become professionals and endevour into our chosen careers, which includes teaching skills and strategies as well as information on Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology. This knowledge is essential for the furture where we as teachers will draw on it in the process of scaffolding our students knowledge and understanding in the field of PDHPE.

Evidence:

The reference that I recieved from my school, St Vincent's College, after completing the Higher School Certificate in 2004 indicates that during my time at the College I developed a sound academic record; good Cristian principals; Knowledge in a wide range of sporting activities; and through my experiences in the boarding house I developed the fundamental qualities necessary for living with a group of people that all come from different discource communities throughout Australia, including respect for other's opinions and beliefs, honesty, tolarence and support. This reference is therefore evidence that I obtained a wide range of knowledge during my schooling years, being both planned curriculum, including my sound academic record, and unplanned curriculum, including the knowledge I obtained whilst living in the boarding house.

St Vincents College Reference

Growing up and during my time at St Vincent's College, I was invloved in an array of sports including Polocrosse, Netball, Basketball, Hockey, Athletics and Touch Football. I have played Touch Footbal for 6 years now, and in 2004 was chosen to be a Sydney Eastern Suburbs representative for the under 18's touch football team. I have a clear knowledge of the game which I gained from my coaches and peers, helping me to learn the rules and how to apply these in a game situation. Through my extensive experience, I have also recieved a wide knowledge of skills, drills and strategies associated with the game of touch football.
