Pedagogy is the art of teaching and education, including the principals and methods of instruction.

During pedagogy, assessment (activities used to judge a students performance) is essential as it allows teachers to identify, gather and interpret information about students during their learning process. This allows teachers to diagnose 'gaps' or difficulties that students may have with particular curriculum or concepts, meaning that the teachers can work with and scaffold students into a better understanding of these concepts. Assessment is also an effective tool for teachers as it assists them in evaluating their own programs and teaching practices.

Evidence:

The extract from an assignment that I completed this year on how literacy practices vary within homes and communities; and the implications of such diversity for schooling, represents the knowledge I have already obtained about the importance of literacy in the classroom, and the diversity amoung students as the enter schools comming from different backgrounds. The ideas that I expressed in my assignment will become very important to my sucess as a teacher as it gives me insight into the fact that I will have to find strategies in which I can communicate literacy to cater for diversity within the classroom. I recieved a distinction for this assignment, which indicates that I have a thorough knowledge in this area of curriculum and understand variation within homes, communities and schools.

A Sport and Exercise Behaviour assignment that I completed this year on my anticipated career, where I discussed the key skills, practices and roles/responsibilities that I believe are required for teaching, is a good example of the knowledge that I am building so as to become a more effective teacher in later years. The peice of writing explores how I believe that teachers must play a major leadership role in the classroom, must have good communication and listening skills, and must be able to create an environment in which students are eager to learn by using reinforcement strategies. I recieved a distinction for this assignment which indicates that I have expolred and extensively learned some important skills and responsibilities that will be crutial to put into pratices in my own classroom setting as I hope to become a sucessful PDHPE teacher.
