ITC216 Assignment 1 Part C

Service Area Map

The client also requires a symbolic map that illustrates the geographic area serviced by the client. This has been implemented as a vector graphic, then exported to a GIF using web-safe colors only. The following process was used in Paint Shop Pro 7 to create the image:

  1. Downloaded maps of the area from whereis.com to use as a reference for the shape of the coastline and location of suburbs.
  2. Created a new vector image.
  3. Used the Draw tool, set to Point-to-Point Line, to create filled polygons to represent land/coastline, water, and the service area covered by the client, each in it's own layer.
  4. Used the Text tool, set to 10pt Arial Bold, to add text labels for each of the major towns/suburbs within the service area. All of the text collectively occupies it's own layer.
  5. Used the Draw tool to draw a line representing a distance scale, and added text to represent the scaled length of the line.
  6. Used the Preset Shapes tool to draw a rectangle, filled with the same color as the service area, and added the text "SERVICE AREA" to the right side of the rectangle, to serve as a legend.
  7. Used GIF Optimizer to export the vector to a GIF image, using the following settings:
    • No transparency
    • 16 colors
    • Web-safe palette
    • No dithering
    • Interlaced
