ITC216 Assignment 1 Part C
The client also requires a symbolic map that illustrates the geographic area serviced by the client. This has been implemented as a vector graphic, then exported to a GIF using web-safe colors only. The following process was used in Paint Shop Pro 7 to create the image:
- Downloaded maps of the area from whereis.com to use as a reference for the shape of the coastline and location of suburbs.
- Created a new vector image.
- Used the Draw tool, set to Point-to-Point Line, to create filled polygons to represent land/coastline, water, and the service area covered by the client, each in it's own layer.
- Used the Text tool, set to 10pt Arial Bold, to add text labels for each of the major towns/suburbs within the service area. All of the text collectively occupies it's own layer.
- Used the Draw tool to draw a line representing a distance scale, and added text to represent the scaled length of the line.
- Used the Preset Shapes tool to draw a rectangle, filled with the same color as the service area, and added the text "SERVICE AREA" to the right side of the rectangle, to serve as a legend.
-
Used GIF Optimizer to export the vector to a GIF image, using the following
settings:
- No transparency
- 16 colors
- Web-safe palette
- No dithering
- Interlaced
