My Job
I work 9am-5pm Monday to Friday for Lachlan Shire Council in their IT department. At Lachlan Shire Council there are only 2 IT members of staff who service 50 other staff members. With only 2 permanent IT staff members it gives me a great opportunity to make recommendations about the future direction of the role of IT in the council which sometimes, to a certain extent, I get to implement. One of the major implementations I have made during my time at the council is using Windows Deployment Service to re-image over 50 computers with the Windows XP operating system and many other software packages. This deployment has taken nearly 3 months but at last it is nearly finished.
My role in the organisation is known as an IT Cadet which basically means that I work full time while studying part-time. In my job as an IT cadet I have a wide range of duties to perform which include:
- deploying new computers
- installing printers
- setting up computer networks
- installing computer software
- problem solving
- website maintenance
- performing computer backups
- and database administration
