Curriculum includes all the occurrences that take place in the classroom, both planned and unplanned.
Planned curriculum includes all the information presented and outlined in the Board Of Studies syllabus.
Unplanned curriculum, also referred to as the 'hidden curriculum' includes what is taught in the classroom/school that is not part of the subjects syllabus or relate to it. However it is still beneficial to the students. Unplanned curriculum may include bullying strategies, dealing with peer pressure and ethics/ morals.
MY EVIDENCE
I have included parts of my assignment from this course, EED 112 language as a social practice that highlight the importance of literacy and teaching. This essay helped define my understandings of language as a social practice and furthermore the meaning of literacy.
'Literacy is a social practice and is therefor learned as part of wider social practices and processes in which we engage as we become members of our families and communities. That is we learn to 'do' literacy
as we learn to behave and belong in our families and communities' (Breen et al, 1994 p.4)
In writing my essay i found that language and literacy are diverse social practices due to the make-up and different values and beliefs of society. These variations within these differing settings are unavoidable and have proven to cause adverse affects and implications for schooling. However awareness of the fact that children learn to 'do' literacy from families and communities can aid in limiting the affect the children incur. Implications for schooling originates from our diverse society, this can not be changed or avoided but the learning teaching cycle and ZPD theory can be integrated and implemented in various ways to benefit and maximise ones learning experience (Built cd 2002).
'The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires'. (William Arthur Ward)
I have also included part of my assignment on the analysis of an anticipated career from the subject introduction to sport and exercise behaviour EHR 101. This particular essay emphasised the skills needed to be a successful, effective and efficient PD/H/PE teacher. It provided reasons for the importance of such attributes as communication skills, leadership and teamwork's skill, and how important ones ability to provide essential feedback and reinforcement is. Parts of my essay that below elaborate on these key attributes.
Communication is necessary to pass knowledge on effectively, it provides the basis of teaching. Communication entails not only passing your knowledge on when teaching but also encompasses active listening skills...
Feedbacks ultimate aim when used constructively is to improve performance and/or effort. Its importance in the school setting should be emphasised as students require direction and this can be achieved through knowledge of results...
leadership described by Barrow (1977, p.232) as 'the behavioral process of influencing individuals and groups toward set goals. Leadership skills must be stressed as teachers are generally the sole leader in the classroom setting and the affect of their influence is very important...
