Pedagogy and Assessment
Pedagogy can be defined as the art and practice of teaching (Oxford dictionary 2000). This is very important as teaching requires a holistic concept be taken to recognise the uniqueness of individuals. Pedagogy is the 'what you do' and the 'how you do it' in relation to teaching. It is catergorised into instruction, curriculum and learning. These components are part of a multidimensional view towards pedagogy. Pedagogy in relation to a teacher is the process of developing and enabling students to understand, practice and effectivly use the knowledge they gain. (Kirk et al, 1996)

'The pupil who is never required to do what he cannot do,
never does what he can do'
(John Stuart Miller)
