Nick Klomp has taught and conducted research at four different universities in Australia and overseas prior to joining Charles Sturt University. He was a Commonwealth Scholar obtaining his PhD from the University of Glasgow in 1991. At CSU, he is the Dean of the Faculty of Science, which is one of the largest and most diverse faculties in Australia, with over 9000 students and 500 staff in seven schools and several research centres of excellence.
Professor Klomp is the Science Correspondent for ABC Radio, going live to air every week across New South Wales and Victoria. He has won the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence and has been nominated thrice for the Eureka Prize for the Promotion of Science.
Professor Klomp has successfully supervised dozens of research students and has attracted grants and consultancies to the value of around $1.3 M, including four large and four small Australian Research Council grants, plus many millions of dollars worth of external grants for infrastructure and faculty programs. He has been an editor and referee for national and international journals, invited chair of symposia at international conferences, and is a regular invited presenter at workshops and conferences around Australia (currently 20 per year). He has published widely on various topics in ecology (currently over 60 refereed publications and 100 reports and other publications), although his major research interests are in the areas of environmental management, behavioural ecology and tertiary education.
