Training
Training opportunities for Pacific law library staff include scholarships, regional workshops and formal education opportunities.
Scholarships
Information will be made available here as the PILLC becomes aware of new scholarship opportunities.
Regular scholarships currently available include:
- Australian Law Librarians' Association Pacific Islands Libraries Scholarship
- This scholarship is offered annually to law library staff and consists of either a work placement or a conference attendence in Australia.
Workshops
The first workshop for the PILLC was held in Vanuatu at the University of the South Pacific (USP) May 2009.
Twenty library staff attended the workshop organised by the Australian Attorney-General's Department and The Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute (PacLII).
The workshop provided the impetus for the formation of the PILLC resulting in a list of recommendations for a way forward for the group.
As a result of the recommendations of the PILLC a second workshop is currently being planned for 2011.
To receive information on the workshop as it becomes available contact the Attorney-General's Department Pacific Law Library Twinning Program.
Education
Formal education for Pacific library staff can be accessed through universities and colleges. Occasionally scholarships are also offered for formal education opportunities.
The University of the South Pacific offers a Diploma of Library and Information Studies and is planning to offer a new degree course in 2011.
The Charles Sturt University in Australia offers a Bachelor of Information Studies part time course through distance education.
