Road ecology

< under construction>

Road ecology explores the relationship between the road system and the natural environment. It explores the impacts of road networks on biodiversity (e.g. roadkill), and their interactions and exchanges with adjacent habitats. Key areas of research include:

• Network theory

• Barrier effects, altered landscape flows

• Population processes (faun and flora)

Road ecology – key vegetation issues I wish to address:

  • Invasive plant dispersal processes in transportation corridors
  • Role of disturbance vs habitat quality in recruitment of native and exotic plants
  • Identification of reference sites for restoration activities
  • Cultural heritage values of Travelling Stock Routes (TSRs)
