Analytical Tool - Crazy Egg

Crazy Egg is a web based click tracking software which unlike other analytical tools that just create statistics of your users, allows you to see where your users have clicked.  This includes links, forms, ads, and flash documents.

Crazy Egg tests are designed to be used for limited periods of time to see how users respond to changes on your site.
Crazy Egg Installation
A Crazy Egg test is simple to set up.  Once registered with Crazy Egg, only 4 steps are required.
  1. Enter the URL of the website page you want to test. 
  2. Enter your time period (or number of users) for the test.
  3. Copy and paste the line of JavaScript created by Crazy Egg into your website.
  4. Wait and see.
Crazy Egg Results
Crazy Egg reports the results of your tests in 4 different ways.
Overlay – an image of your page is shown with coloured markers that depict the number of clicks received.  The colours depict different percentages of clicks (blue for low, red for high). Expanding the markers gives you more information about the origin of the clicks.

Heatmap – the heatmap gives you a more visual picture of what areas of your website are more popular.

Confetti – this is a relatively new feature of Crazy Egg that displays your clicks as coloured dots that depict different categories of your website eg browser, window size and operating system.  This feature is good for showing where users have clicked expecting links to be.

List – the list provides you with raw data about the clicks and where they have come from.  This data can be exported as a CSV file into other software eg. Microsoft Excel.

All of your results are automatically archived and can be accessed at a later time.  For the paid subscribers, results can even be obtained in real time.
