| Axure
RP contains many features that can improve the process of creating
information architecture deliverables. |
| Time
saving Time saving benefits are the big factor with Axure RP. The ability to create wireframes, and then prototypes and specifications all within the one tool without having to recreate or simply even re key the information is a definite time saver. The ease at which wireframes and prototypes can be adapted, also speeds up the design process when changes have to be made to these items. |
| Ease of
use Axure RP is easy to install and as it is based on the Microsoft format, the time it takes to familiarize yourself with the tool is reduced. Even without any prior experience in creating wireframes, or with any diagramming tools, I was able to create my first wireframe within a short period of time. |
| Support Axure RP provides adequate help pages to assist you whilst using the tool. Further to this, the Axure RP website provides additional help information and useful videos about how to use Axure RP which I found very easy to understand. The website also contains a product blog and discussion forum which demonstrates a commitment to supporting their users. This is further demonstrated by a stated time frame for responding to any queries sent via their online form. |
| Cost Axure RP currently costs $589 US for a single user license which includes 12 months of free updates and support. Additional 12 months renewals are available for $149 US. However if you do not renew your license, you can still use the tool but without the support and updates. A free 30 day software trial is available which is beneficial in order to evaluate the tool functionally against your requirements. |
| Summary To me Axure RP appears to be a very worthwhile software tool due to the incorporation of 3 key information architecture deliverables into the one tool yielding considerable time savings. At nearly $600 US it is comparable to other similar tools on the market. I do not think for what the tool can deliver it is too cost prohibitive to sole practitioners or information architecture consultants. |
