Ebony Caccianiga is the successful business owner of Glamour Hairdressing. Her Salon has been up and running for three years now and it is still an on going dream and commitment in her life. She was inspired by others to go out on her own and with the support from her family and friends she was given the encouragement to succeed from scratch and then progressed to what her business has become today. What made you want to become a hairdresser? It had always been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. Where did u start? My dad actually found me a job working as a junior girl, after school and Saturday mornings for a local hairdresser’s named, Barjai. Then from there I was offered an apprenticeship which continued for 3 years. What made you go out on your own? I honestly just wasn’t happy working for others, I was always thinking about how I would do or handle things differently and because of this I felt I was seeking a bigger challenge. Where did your business start from? This building was actually an old run down laundry mat! It was a pretty big job to fix up, but I honestly didn’t mind starting from scratch because it meant everything such as power points could be put wherever I needed them. At the time $33,000 was a lot of money to be spending, however looking back I wouldn’t change anything as the business is now able to pay for itself. What made your dream become a reality? Before I opened my business I nearly considered a change in careers, but it was with the encouragement from not only my friends and family, but my partner that the dream of owning my own hair salon become an option. I’m not a businessmen, however my partner is an accountant, therefore I guess you could say we own the business together. Hairdressing can be a very competitive business career, how did you handle going out on your own and keeping your head held high? Being in control of my business is really important to me, I make sure I listen to the client’s wants and needs and I also make sure I differentiate from other salons. Who do you most admire? I love Tabatha Coffey! I think she is an amazing person with so much control, if u haven’t seen her TV series I recommend checking it out! What is the best advice you have been given? “Don’t just be a hair dresser, cutting, coloring and styling, also be in touch with the financial affairs.” What has been a highlight of running the salon so far? The whole experience has been an amazing challenge but I’d have to say the highlight was winning the local New Start Business award when we had only been open for six months! If you could make a difference what would it be? Defiantly giving my junior girl the chance to fulfill her dream as I have done.
