Me: Oh wow what does a film do? Craig: uhhh purchase films (smiles). Me: oh yea ok i knew thatttt (blushes) but i mean WHAT does it involve? Craig: Purchases films, dates the films and organises what films will show that kind of thing. Me: Nice Me: How old are you Craig if you don’t mind me asking, you don’t have to answer? Craig: Very late 20’s (Laughs Very VERY late twenties) me: ooooohhhh ok (smiles) your funny!! Me: How do you feel about getting older Craig? Craig: doesn’t bother me. Me: really but why? Craig: you never stop learning as I get older i learn more and more you just never stop learning do you. Me: Do you still have aspirations or dreams about your future Craig? Craig: well i don’t remember my dreams. Me: Nooo i mean about your future, do you still have dreams. Craig: hmm no not really. Probably about my kids futures more so than my own. Me: What do you like to do to pass your days? Craig: Playing golf as leisure. Love the fresh air. My children they are a constant in my life, bringing up my kids. Me: cinema has changed a fair bit since the 1950’s. Craig: certainly has. Me: What do you think about when you think of the 1950’s movies? Craig: 1950’s movies remind me of black and white, remind me of ethics, they remind me of my mother watching them. Me; that’s awesome. Me what do you think about today’s movies? Craig: what’s the term I’m looking for not over produced but over spent, their over special effected. Not enough real stories. Me: If you could ever go back in time and stop time at any given era, what era would that be and how would and why. Craig: any era in the last 40000 years of the human occupation of the world uhI don’t know if i would like to live in anything outside of this era, mmm that’s fairdinkm. If you think about other eras you might think “wouldn’t it have been great if you could have been one of the original explorers, but you probably would have got a snake bite and died. Or caught a cold. You had a 10th of the percent of information that you have available today. I got to say today there probably more opportunities today and i probably more opportunities tomorrow. Me: Do other people see you as interesting? Craig: laughs i suppose you have to ask other people. Me: OK do you see yourself as interesting or inspiring. Craig: uh NO! Me: you probably inspire other people with the movies you pick. Craig: (quietly) Yea. Me: What is the greatest achievement of your life? Craig: My three children Me: lastly who’s your hero? Craig: i have plenty of heroes but none that jump out that i have a poster on the wall (smiles). Depends on what category you’re looking at. Me: OK who inspired you? Craig: my father. Me: in which way? Craig: Direction. Me: thanks Craig. Craig sais no worries with a smile. Interview Two – Movie Projectionist; Aidan Cameron Introduction Me: What’s your name please? Aidan: Aidan Cameron (states shyly). Me: What is your Job title? Aidan: Movie projectionist. Me: What got you into movie projectionist? Aidan: I love movies, always have, I have always been interested in film and screen. Its one of my hobbies since i was a little child. Me: Is it like the 1950’s movies how they projected their films? Aidan: (confidently) At the moment most cinemas still play films pretty much the same over the past 100 years, they get sent on 35mm print gets sent on reels. But things are starting to go digital the DCP files get send through a hard drive which a very high security clearance is needed and you need a special key just to open the case. We are doing 3D films also which is sent the same way but the 3D films need a special silver screen to play on because it allows more light onto the screen so the 3D effect works Me: is it real silver. Aidan: (laughs shyly) no just painted. Me: oh ok. (Embarrassed) Me: So how do you get the film to show on the screen? Aidan: The projection of the film is basically automated. It’s as easy as loading the film then load to play then play. Me: that’s it! Aidan: well it comes from the GCD server component which is in America. So basically the technician has all the supplies. Me: is it really that easy. Aidan: well no, if something goes wrong I can tell just by the sound of this room, you get to know the machines and can tell by sound if something is not working right. If something does go wrong then it’s complicated to fix you have to revert to the projectors manual, you have to know how to change the lens and things like that. Me: Do the films come made up ready to go basically. Aidan well we add the ad in and that kind of thing. Me: are the programs hard to use. Aidan: no we use Adobe sound. Get our ads from advertisers and then it’s ready to go. Me: Can i ask you some things about yourself please. Aidan: well ok (hesitant). Me: Do you have dreams about your future? Aidan: See myself as a financial planner or go onto production as a career path i don’t see this as a long term gig. Me: Do you see your self as interesting Aiden: Ill pass on that Me: Do other people see your job as interesting? Aidan: Yes most people see this as an interesting career, especially kids. Kids are fascinated. Me: when you think about the 1950’s movies and you think of today’s movies do you think its been a positive evolution in the film entertainment genre? Aidan: Films have gone to the better everything graphics and sound. But the stories are repeated today and so similar to the old movies very much “been there done that” storylines from the 1950’s. Its definitely a lot harder to WOW people these days. Not many movies do that. Do you think as a society we are over stimulated visually and mentally? Aidan: Yes, but if you look at most films today they address these needs in the target audience, So they are getting what they want. Me: Who is your hero and why? Aidan: Massive sport fan of Michael Jordan the basketballer but in the film industry Steven Spielberg. My favourite movie is jaws. Me: ew!
